Hi - 'newbie' here.

I am trying to find some support for data import functionality on MYOB Accounting Plus Version 11 (5.8.7).  I have searched the software help, the MYOB website, the web, and my user guide to no avail, so am hoping hoping that somebody here can help.

I am simply trying to import .qif data to MYOB.  Everywhere I look - it says that you can - but I can't!

The instructions all say ...
"Choose Import Data from the File menu, then choose Quicken (QIF) File from the Import Data sub-menu." however, there IS NO 'Quicken (QIF) File' option in my Import data sub-menu.

I am set up for single user access (in fact I am the only user of the file) and I have experimented with and without passwords.

I would greatly appreciate some advice as to what I am doing wrong.

Please excuse me for adding this to 'General Discussion' but the issue I have does not fit into the other categories.

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

The qif file has been put together from about 40 individual online statements which I downloaded to individual .qif files. I then consolidated them in MS Money (which I hate but just happen to have) and then exported the data out as 1 .qif file which I want to import into MYOB (n.b. I don't own a copy of Quicken).

This is probably a long way round, but I thought that MYOB could import qif files easily.

MYOB you've gone quiet on me. :-) so thought I would post again.

Just to recap my key query is why does all of the MYOB documentation say that you can ...

"Choose Import Data from the File menu, then choose Quicken (QIF) File from the Import Data sub-menu."  when there is no 'Quicken (QIF) File' option in the Import data sub-menu.

Sorry spiral been busy.

There is a method in my madness for asking if it was a bank statement and here's why and the answer to your question.

First on the help file that says "Choose Import Data .........

This is for importing data exported from Quicken in a Quicken QIF file. Not for bank statements. However, that said, it is a bit of a mute point as it is incorrect for the UK version of MYOB as ,as you quite rightly pointed out, there is no such option this is because the UK version doesn't allow imports from Quicken in a QIF file.

So why is it there, well the answer to that, if you are interested, is that in the Australian version you can and the Help file was originally written for that and someone at MYOB UK didn't see it when they updated the help files for the UK release.

You might want to take it up with MYOB UK although another mute point as they have now released version 13.

To import a bank statement

To import a bank statement in the QIF format you do the following.

  1. BACK UP YOUR DATA FILE
  2. Go to the Banking Command centre
  3. Click on Reconcile Accounts
  4. Choose the account that you want to reconcile (import)
  5. Click on the Get Statement button
  6. In the window that opens navigate to where you have the file located, select it and click Open
  7. If it is a valid file it will work.

Cheers,

The Guru

Whoa hold the horses, you may want to take it up with MYOB UK as I have just checked Version 13 and guess what, the help file is still wrong.

Cheers again,

The Guru

Many thanks for your response Guru,

Glad to hear that its not me being a muppet, and that MYOB UK is the  in this instance.

Statement option works!  - just hadn't spotted it before.  Just a years worth of account category allocation to do now - joy!

Just hope the bods of MYOB check out your forum for a bit of customer input before the next version.

Cheers again!
